Prof. Victor Nnam Honoured at Amechi Uwani Ofalla Festival

Prof. Victor Nnam, a former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, received a major traditional honour on Saturday during the Amechi Uwani Ofalla Festival in Enugu.

During the celebration, Amechi Uwani, a prominent community in Enugu South Local Government Area, hosted guests and indigenes at Ofia-Utu for the colourful annual festival.

Ugwu of Enugu Title Bestowed on Professor Victor Nnam

As part of the programme, the traditional ruler, HRH Igwe Joseph O. Ogbodo, Ohachirieze II of Amechi Uwani, conferred the revered Ugwu of Enugu title on the renowned academic.

According to community leaders, the chieftaincy title recognised the contributions of the geoinformatics professor to youth empowerment, community service, and transformational leadership.

Prof. Nnam Reacts to the Honour

Speaking after the ceremony, Professor Victor Nnam expressed gratitude to the monarch and the Amechi Uwani community.

He described the recognition as the highest honour of his life. In his words, no honour compares to being recognised by one’s king and people.

Furthermore, the Ugwu of Enugu pledged to guide young people toward excellence and promote self-reliance.

Ofalla Festival Marks Monarch’s Anniversary

Meanwhile, DAILY GAZETTE gathered that the Ofalla Festival marked the 12th anniversary of Igwe Ogbodo’s ascension to the throne.

As a result, the event attracted community leaders, indigenes from all kindreds, and Amechi Uwani sons and daughters in the diaspora.

Other Honours and Past Recognitions

In addition, the community honoured other distinguished sons and daughters with chieftaincy titles during the festival.

Earlier, in August 2020, the Amechi Uwani indigene received the title of Ugwu-Eku of Amechi from his Umunnugwu kindred.

On 20 December 2025, the traditional ruler of Abor ancient kingdom in Udi LGA also conferred on him the title “Nnanyelugo Abor.”
